Today we are exploring a creative way to end your team-building activities based on the Holidays. As Steven Covey says… “Start with the end in mind.” So… I want to do just that… by showing everyone how I plan some of my events.
Get a box full of supplies that I use for different activities when I travel. Each box is for a group of 8 to 10 people. In this case one box per table.
Once all the activities are played, I like to make my life simple and in the past, I just ask the group to put all the supplies back in the box. But for this holiday group, I decided to make it a game, and here is a little of that action.
The goal of the activity is simple. When you say the word, “GO.” Time starts and everyone places all the supplies back in the box. Upon filling and closing the box, the group takes the wrapping paper and has to wrap the box in the fastest time possible.
While the team is planning how to wrap the box to where no part of the box is showing, then one member of the group comes to the front to earn only one piece of tape at a time. Each piece of tape is one inch long. For each time they say a phrase correctly then they are allowed to take that piece of tape, back to the table.
You can use the phrase “Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers.” from the previous clip. Or use your own. Once delivered, they can go back for another piece, and once again they have to say the magic phrase. This is repeated until the box is fully wrapped, and no part of the box is showing. Then in the end they need to record their time and see who wins the end. If at any time the phrase is not said fast enough or not correctly, I like to send them back to the end of the line.
In the end, If you so desire, do a quality check for either:
- One, did they wrap the box completely?
- Two, did they leave out any supply pieces from previous activities? It is up to you if you wish to add additional time for their consequence.
Variation:
If you are looking for something more collaborative towards communication and “literally” working and thinking “outside the box,” then try this variation.
Cut up smaller squares of paper. The goal is to see if they hold all the squares in place with their fingers to cover every inch of the box. If you try out this version, then please let me know in the comments below if you like this version and or how well it worked for you.
